Congrats to our Winter Programs, First Jazz Festival, Rose Parade, and Keepsake Pillows

Congrats to Color Guard and Drumline!

I’m so excited for and proud of the work that the Winter Guard and Winter Drumline have put in this year. The students have worked so hard, and it showed in their first competition out. Both groups took home 1st place!

I can’t wait to watch where both groups go this year. They are building an amazing culture here at Cerritos, and its so fun to see their success celebrated. Keep it up!

FYI for Jazz, Drumline, and Color Guard

Please note that rides to all of our winter program performances are on your own! We do not take busses to any of these events like we do for marching band. This applies to jazz festivals, color guard shows, and drumline shows. Please plan accordingly!

Jazz Band Festival Dates

Jazz band families, mark your calendars for February 24 and March 9. February 24, we will be going down the road to Mayfair High School to participate in the Blue Dragon Jazz Festival. Then, on March 9, we will be competing at Esperanza High School’s (my alma mater) Aztec Jazz Festival.

Summer Schedule

Many of you have been asking and it is here! The summer schedule can now be found on our calendar. Some events may still be added, and sectionals through the summer are highly encouraged. We are also looking to host one or two workshops after school for incoming and current CHS students in the Spring before we leave for the summer.

This year, we are making some changes. After talking with the staff, and many students, we are trying to be much more efficient with our time, and give students a break between school years. You will notice that there are less percussion and color guard camps, and no camps for wind players before band camp. We are also flexing the camps to the beginning and end of the summer so there is a break in the middle for vacations. These were intentional decisions to try to accommodate family plans, travel plans, etc., and we are trying to be respectful of the students break time. However, this means that it is more important than ever for all students to be at all of the rehearsals. Please plan your summer accordingly!

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who helped at the Color Guard Preview Show! We made about $2500 at the event, and the students had a great time. Thank you for your support!
