Honor Band Results

Congratulations to Katie Cha, Ella Tai, Chiago Anyiam, and Bryce Estrella for making this year’s honor band! Everybody, mark your calendars for February 15th for an awesome night of music. The honor band will be playing a concert at Whitney High School, conducted by Dr. Travis Cross from UCLA.

Rose Parade

Be on the lookout for a separate post about the Rose Parade. If you missed the meeting, or missed the handouts, they will be sent out soon. I am also working on a web page that will serve as the hub for all your Rose Parade needs. I’m excited to march down Colorado Boulevard with you! This year’s theme is Best Day Ever, and it is sure to be one you won’t forget!

Jazz Band Festival Dates

Jazz band families, mark your calendars for February 24 and March 9. February 24, we will be going down the road to Mayfair High School to participate in the Blue Dragon Jazz Festival. Then, on March 9, we will be competing at Esperanza High School’s (my alma mater) Aztec Jazz Festival.

Summer Schedule

Many of you have been asking and it is here! The summer schedule can now be found on our calendar. Some events may still be added, and sectionals through the summer are highly encouraged. We are also looking to host one or two workshops after school for incoming and current CHS students in the Spring before we leave for the summer.

This year, we are making some changes. After talking with the staff, and many students, we are trying to be much more efficient with our time, and give students a break between school years. You will notice that there are less percussion and color guard camps, and no camps for wind players before band camp. We are also flexing the camps to the beginning and end of the summer so there is a break in the middle for vacations. These were intentional decisions to try to accommodate family plans, travel plans, etc., and we are trying to be respectful of the students break time. However, this means that it is more important than ever for all students to be at all of the rehearsals. Please plan your summer accordingly!
